Read MoreI made it in and out of Kearny with ease, thanks to Gary and the Old Time Pizza crew, who make it easy for hikers to get to town and get what they need (which interestingly seems to often involve pizza).

For our summer vacation Cosmo and I decided we would spend a month and a half walking in the Sierra Nevada. We made plans to hike the High Sierra Trail and explore new territory in our favorite mountain range.

In the morning, Cosmo and I enjoyed a short trail run to the scenic Lone Pine Lake and then traveled south to Lancaster to fill up on resupply food and prepare for the next part of our summer adventure.
Read MoreWe woke up at 2:30am in a rest stop parking lot off of Highway 395. It was dark outside and we were exhausted but needed to be at the Agnew Meadows parking area in Mammoth, CA no later than 7:00am (the time when the shuttles begin and the roads are closed to regular cars).
Read MoreA restaurant at a trailhead can be a dangerous thing, especially when that restaurant has vegan options and outdoor seating. Cosmo and I sat on the patio of the Cedar Grove Lodge, overlooking Copper Creek, and enjoyed our non-dehydrated breakfast (and lunch).
